PITCH Your Way to RUNWAY, a pilot program sponsored by the State of New Mexico Economic Development Department, made its debut on February 20th at the Santa Fe Brewery where City Councilor JoAnne Vigil Coppler kicked off the event with opening remarks. We are grateful to Creative Santa Fe and HatchForm for their collaboration in bringing this launch event to life and we thank our Master of Ceremonies, Jamey Shelton, of NMCFO.
More than 100 people gathered to watch 10 contenders pitch their business ideas to our judges, including Marie Longserre, Alex Hanna of Invisible City Designs, and Liz Camacho, City of Santa Fe Office of Economic Development. The attendees took part in choosing a winner, Kammi Matson, of Hula Hoop Nation, and her transportable hula hoop, pictured above. Matson showed off her excellent hula-hooping skills as she convinced the audience why she was worthy to garner the cash prize for her new product, Portal Hoop and Holster.
After the event, six entrepreneurs were invited to participate in the six-week training program. Invitees were chosen based on how well-developed their idea was, the quality of their pitch, and the potential to grow the idea into a business.
The group began meeting in person weekly and soon moved to an online platform. The RUNWAY cohort met every Wednesday evening to learn from our expert advisors and hone their ideas with the goal of turning them into a business. The response from the participants was overwhelmingly positive and we look forward to seeing how their new ideas evolve.
