The SFBI officially opened a fully equipped shared BioScience Lab addition in April, 2014. The lab includes many high tech specialized pieces including a Flow Cytometer, Real Time PCR Machine, and Gel Doc XR+ System. The lab also includes standard equipment like centrifuges, vortexers, refrigerators, and an 80 below freezer.
The BioScience Lab is the perfect landing spot for early-stage life science startups and provides an ideal proving ground for IP from the national labs or universities. Startups with homegrown technologies also find the BioScience Lab to be an optimal environment to continue their R&D towards test trials and commercialization.
For current SFBI clients and startup BioScience companies, the SFBI has a two-tiered system of lab access. Bench space in the shared BioScience Lab is between $1,000 and $1,200 per bench.
