SFBI was established in 1997 as a community workspace for new businesses to launch and grow. With the expansive 30,000 square foot facility, the SFBI features office space as well as lab and light manufacturing space which is available to clients in the way of affordable, short-term leases.

In 1995, the current location of the Santa Fe Business Incubator (SFBI) was 3.25 acres of weeds providing no positive economic impact for our community. Fortunately, the City of Santa Fe and the Santa Fe Chamber of Commerce, with foresight and vision, recognized the potential of building and supporting a business incubator, and over the next two years, thanks to their leadership, what had been just a concept became a reality.
The original 10,000 square foot Incubator facility opened in December 1997 and, with its early success, quickly expanded to 30,000 square feet in 2002. Recent modifications and changes have included the addition of its shared BioScience Lab in April 2014, the Archimedes Fab Lab in February 2017, and dedicated coworking spaces in response to the needs of solo entrepreneurs.
An attraction over the years has been SFBI’s location which includes ample parking, convenience for modes of public transportation, and easy access to/from Los Alamos and Albuquerque.
On average the facility houses 18 to 20 resident client businesses employing approximately 140 people. The facility includes production units, service units, small and large offices, two shared kitchen and break room areas, four conference rooms, an enclosed courtyard, and a light-filled reception area. In order to assure flexibility and absorb the possibility of current clients' growth throughout the year, SFBI maintains a range of capacity between 75% to 90%.
