B.Public

Improves the quality of new home construction without sacrificing style, performance, or a commitment to carbon reduction. Designs high-performance buildings that are built by people who can afford to live in them.

The AHA moment

Edie recognized that sustainable construction would only achieve real adoption if it became feasible for the stick-built homebuilders who construct most of the housing in America. Her insight was that upskilling those builders — while offering new building systems and designs they could actually execute — was the path to making carbon reduction in construction a reality rather than a luxury.

The SFBI difference

Edie hadn't been looking for office space when she found SFBI. What she found was that SFBI had the attorneys, financial advisors, and an entire ecosystem under the same roof — available at the very beginning of the company's life, when those questions are strangest and most urgent. The depth and breadth of experience that could be brought to bear on an early-stage startup was what made SFBI the right place to emerge strong.

Growth

B.Public doubled in size in its most recent year and has been rapidly gaining adoption among builders. The company's building system has been specified for post-wildfire rebuilds in California and Colorado, and it has projects underway in Massachusetts, New York, and New Mexico. Architects are increasingly specifying the B.Public system, with nine homes under internal design and growing traction with multi-family developers in the five-to-thirty-home range. B.Public graduated from SFBI in September 2023.
