At the Santa Fe Business Incubator a supportive environment starts with a place.

SFBI was created in 1997 as a community work space for new businesses to launch and grow. SFBI has built in its 30,000 square foot facility, office, lab and light manufacturing space, for which it offers clients affordable short-term leases.

In 1995, the current location of the Santa Fe Business Incubator (SFBI) was 3.25 acres of weeds providing no positive economic impact for our community.  Fortunately, the City of Santa Fe and the Santa Fe Chamber of Commerce, with foresight and vision, recognized the potential of building and supporting a business incubator, and over the next two years, thanks to their leadership, what had been just a concept became a reality.

The original 10,000 square foot Incubator facility opened in December 1997 and based on its early success was expanded to 30,000 square feet in 2002.  Recent modifications and changes have included the addition of its shared BioScience Lab in April, 2014, and the creation of a Maker Space –Archimedes Lab, dedicated Co-working spaces in response to the needs of solo entrepreneurs, and other facilities which include a video lab and a 3-D metal printer.

An attraction over the years has been SFBI’s location which includes ample parking, convenience for modes of public transportation, and easy access to/from Los Alamos and Albuquerque.

On average the facility houses 18 to 20 resident client businesses employing approximately 140 people. The facility includes Production Units, Service Units, Small and Large Offices, two Kitchens, three Conference Rooms, enclosed courtyard, and reception area. In order to assure flexibility and absorb the possibility of current clients to grow, SFBI over the years has maintained a range of capacity between 75% to 90%.

Current investment value of facility: $4.8 million

Use of SFBI facilities and services in past year: 9,500 people
